Materials and aesthetics
Urban codesA photographic study of the built environment leads to the study of single buildings, to an analysis of architecture. The Codes of Photography lead to contrasts in colours, textures, forms, illumination, etc. By extending them to the meaning of the objects depicted, to engineering, aesthetics and functions, we trace the divisions in the urban environment. Architecture is a necessity made into an art form. Man the social animal, Man the political animal has lived in groups since times immemorial. The buildings which house the community are a reflection of it, as much as they are constrained by the technology it possesses. The built environment is necessarily complex, mirroring the divisions in the workforce, the distribution of wealth and the cultural heritage of that group of human beings. There is without doubt an urban code – independently of any photography. Click here to return to the first gallery: Photographic Codes. Use of thumbnail
